Mood Boards for Beginners
Mood Boards for Beginners is a 30-minute instructional unit designed using the Dick & Carey Model.
Role: Instructional Designer
Goal Statement & Learning Objectives
Thoughtful consideration was applied while developing the goal statement to ensure that it clearly described what learners would be able to perform and the behavior that would result in an observable product.
Using Bloom’s Taxonomy as guidance, the learning objectives were developed to include a combination of lower-order and higher-order thinking.

Learner and Task Analysis
A task analysis flowchart was created to show the steps and sub-steps necessary to perform the skill. Interview questions and a script was then developed to conduct a learner analysis with two learners from the target audience to gain a better understanding of their previous knowledge of the topic and to assess their computer skill levels.
Developing Test Items
Test items were created for each specific objective to ensure learners acquired the intended skills.

A one-to-one formative evaluation was conducted with three learners, along with a small group evaluation with six learners. All students were presented with a pretest before viewing the 17-slide PowerPoint presentation, three practice items, and three practice activities. After completing the unit, students were given a 9-item posttest and an attitude survey to capture feedback on the learning experience.
The presentation was later turned into a self-paced online course using Storyline 360.
